A colourful papercut of two cockerels surrounded by flowers. Each one is handmade and unique. Cockerels are supposed to be good luck in kitchens!
The Polish town of Lowicz is famous for its beautiful and complex papercuts. Each piece is cut out by hand and stuck on card. Known as “wycinanki” (vi-chi-nan-kee), they were traditionally used to decorate the walls and roof beams of wooden houses. Until recently it was a dying art but a resurgence in interest has seen wycnanki motifs appearing all over Poland: on bags, pencils and even laptop cases. This is the real deal, made by a lovely lady in Lowicz whose family run the local folk museum.
These look lovely when framed. This one comes on a white card background and is protected with cellophane which should be removed before framing.
Dimensions: 24.8 x 24.8 cm (medium)
